Why We Built This
Running a small business in Hawaii is complicated. You're dealing with the Prepaid Health Care Act, Temporary Disability Insurance, GET, state income tax withholding, unemployment insurance — layers of requirements that don't exist anywhere else in the country.
Most online payroll resources are written for a national audience. They explain federal requirements clearly but barely touch on what makes Hawaii different. We built Hawaii Employer Hub to change that.
Every guide on this site is written specifically for Hawaii employers — with the state-specific rules, the deadlines, the rates, and the consequences that actually apply to businesses operating in the Islands.
Who We Are
Hawaii Employer Hub is a resource by Pacific Data Services, a Honolulu-based payroll and bookkeeping company founded in 1969 by Phil Bennet. We've been processing payroll for Hawaii businesses — restaurants, contractors, retail, healthcare, nonprofits — for over 55 years.
We're not a national software company trying to understand Hawaii from the mainland. We're a local business, doing business in Hawaii, helping other local businesses navigate the same rules we deal with every day.
What You'll Find Here
Our guides cover:
- Hawaii payroll tax requirements (UI, TDI, withholding, Prepaid Health Care)
- Minimum wage and overtime laws
- New hire reporting obligations
- Employee vs. contractor classification
- Final paycheck and wage payment laws
- Workers' compensation requirements
- General Excise Tax basics for employers
- Leave and time-off rules
A Note on Accuracy
We update our guides when laws change. Hawaii employment law moves fast — minimum wage schedules, new regulations, court decisions. We do our best to keep content current, and each article includes a "last updated" date.
That said, this site provides general information only. It's not legal or tax advice. If you have a specific situation, please consult a qualified Hawaii attorney or CPA — or talk to us directly about your payroll needs.
